For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for makeup. When I was little I would take my moms old makeup she didn't use anymore and play with it for hours. As I got older my passion grew stronger, and I discovered a little thing called Youtube. I found all these girls on there that made beauty videos on how to apply makeup and I instantly became obsessed. I could not stop watching these videos, I even wanted to start my own Youtube channel, but six years ago I was a freshman in high school and scared of what people would say about it. For most people Youtube is just a website to watch funny videos, but to me it was so much more than that, It was my makeup school. When it came time to thinking about where I wanted to go to college I knew I wanted to go to a four year school, and makeup isn't something you can major in so I had no idea what I was going to do. I eventually picked a fashion school. I wasn't going to let the fact that I was attending fashion school stop my passion to wanting to be a makeup artist, so I took it upon myself to learn EVERYTHING I needed to know about the art of makeup. I watched endless makeup tutorials, read makeup blogs daily and most importantly; I practiced as much as possible. Practice is key. Being a makeup artist wasn't something that just popped in my head one day, I literally spent 6 years preparing myself and teaching myself as much as I possibly can about the industry. During my second year of college I realized something was missing in my life. I was living in NYC in a beautiful apartment attending fashion school, for most girls that would be more than enough, but I didn't feel complete. Doing makeup on myself everyday wasn't cutting it anymore. I needed to make makeup artistry my job. I started a instragram account solely for my makeup, and started to post new looks daily. I instantly became so inspired by all the other amazing artists on instagram, and I started to step out of my comfort zone and perfect my talent. I then made business cards and started building my freelance kit. I also started my own Youtube channel, I wasn't scared of what people thought anymore, I needed to fulfill this dream of mine. I wanted to get "Makeup by McKenna," out there in every way possible. I know many people think, whats so special about makeup ? Why cover up your face? I don't look at makeup as just "makeup" I look at it as a form of art. I look at my face as a blank canvas each day I apply my own makeup. Makeup has this amazing ability to give girls this confidence they didn't have before, and thats what I love about it. You can see the difference in the clients mood from when you start applying makeup and when they finally look in the mirror when the look is complete. That look the client gives in the mirror , that confidence that I see bursting from within is why I love what I do. Makeup is my passion and I am not giving up until this is my full time job. My message to you is, you can do anything you want as long as you put your mind to it, and put the hard work into it. Its been six long years of me gaining knowledge about the makeup industry and I'm still working towards my dream, but I know all my hard work will pay off one day and so will yours.
